Beginning,as a schoolboy the author asked questions about Gillingham's history,and spent most of his life seeking the answers to those questions.Through the exploitation of local and national archives and libraries,through the interviewing of the town's senior citizens,and through the detailed exploration of Gillingham's geographical setting and the exploration of every street and avenue,the author has found more of the answers than has any other local author.
